When the cost of publishing has fallen to zero, who in their right mind could disagree with the chief executive of Fairfax, David Kirk, when he says that “media companies fit for the modern media world need to be lean and agile”?
What worries me is how, no matter how many staff they cut, big media companies will ever be able to compete with start-up web publishers who use open-source software, have no offices, no staff, no overheads and no risk.





We also have no experience a lot of the time. Fortunately with low or no risks one can afford to figure it out as one goes.
